Undercover Lover: One Lucky Lady Tests Out the Tinge "Razor"

For the ladies who love toys but shudder at the thought of Mami finding it around your house, check out the Tinge Razor ($99, mytinge.com): this pretty pink contraption is really a vibrator in disguise! The cordless pleasure toy is water-resistant, a fully functional razor and a lot more discreet than some other gadgets out there (I’m talking about you, Rabbit).

But as someone who embarrasses easily, I wasn’t going to take the company’s word for it. So, I went out to test how discreet the Tinge really is.

I brought it along on a recent trip to the DR (for research purposes, of course!) and popped it in my purse for the flight. When I passed through airport security, no questions were asked, but if I did have to take everything out I bet my face wouldn’t have been beet red in the process. At one point during the trip, my friend saw the vibrator in my purse. “What’s that?” she asked. I thought for sure I was busted.

“Oh, umm, it’s a razor,” I stammered. “It’s electric.”

Seconds later, another friend entered the room and grabbed the Tinge from my hand, asking, “Oh, what’s this? A razor?”

“Yup!” I said, relieved. When she asked how it worked, I explained the detachable cartridges and then grabbed it back, scared that she’d accidentally turn it on. I should’ve relaxed and remembered that you have to press two buttons simultaneously to start up the good vibrations. For the rest of the trip, I had no problems with leaving the Tinge in the bathroom along with my other toiletries—and my real razor.

I’ve even had several guests at home since then and left the Tinge lying around on my coffee table—along with the rest of my mess—to see if anyone would say anything. No one raised an eyebrow, not even my (eek!) dad.

As for the razor component, the triple blade cartridges contain a Vitamin E and aloe lubrication strip and actually provide a smooth shave. But let’s not kid ourselves. We all know that’s not really why we’d buy this thing. Still, it’s a nice bonus.

Discretion in the bedroom (or in the tub) is a different story, since the vibration can get semi-loud and pretty intense. I thought it was going to fly out of my hand! But with 32 different modes and speeds, I’m sure you’ll find one that’ll send you to the moon in no time!
