Tips for Designing the Perfect Graduation Announcements (4580 hits)

Graduation day is the culmination of years of hard work, and graduation announcements are a great way to let friends and family know about a student's achievements. Announcements not only celebrate the graduate but also serve as invitations to the ceremony and keepsakes for loved ones. Whether you're designing graduation announcements for yourself or your child, these four tips can help make them perfect.

Don't Forget the Details

Every announcement should include the graduate's name, their school and degree and the date and time of the graduation ceremony. You can also include other information like the graduate's future plans, names of spouses, parents and other important family members or a favorite quote. Choose simple, elegant fonts. Keep text large and leave lots of space between elements to make it easier for elderly loved ones to read.

Incorporate School Colors

Graduation is all about the students and their school, so show your pride with your school's colors. Use school colors for text, backgrounds, banners and other design elements. If you don't want to use your school's color theme for the announcements themselves, you can incorporate it into the envelopes instead. Companies like The Image Shop offer colored and printable envelopes in a variety of shapes and sizes to match any school's colors. In many cases, you can even print your school's mascot on the envelopes. Speak with a local printing shop in your area to see which specific services they offer.

Add a Photo

Celebrate the graduate by making their photo front and center on the announcements. Most graduates use their official class photo or senior picture, but a different one can be chosen if it better suits their personality. Consider adding smaller snapshots inside the announcement to highlight special memories. High school graduates may want to include childhood or family photos.

Coordinate Accessories

Many graduates order name cards and gratitude cards to go with their graduation announcements. Name cards are typically given out to friends and classmates to help everyone stay in touch, while gratitude cards are mailed to friends and relatives who sent gifts or attended the graduation ceremony. If you have extra accessories printed, make sure they match the colors and theme of your announcements.

Remember, graduation announcements aren't just for the few friends and family who will attend the ceremony in person. It's traditional to send announcements to faraway relatives, and those relatives will often send money or small gifts to the graduate. You also want to make sure you have enough announcements to save a few. Every graduate will want to keep some announcements to remember their graduation.
