Response to President Trump's Attack on DEI - Defending Diversity in Hiring: A Business Imperative and Call to Action!

Response to President Trump
Posted By: Will Moss on January 22, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 20, 2025 – [Columbus, Ohio] – In light of recent federal policies, led by President Trump, rolling back diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, business leaders and advocates for workplace equity are sounding the alarm about the potential long-term consequences. These changes threaten to undermine decades of progress in creating equitable workplaces and fostering innovation through inclusive hiring practices.

The Business Case for Diversity
Diverse teams have consistently proven to outperform their less diverse counterparts. Research shows that organizations prioritizing inclusive hiring see greater innovation, higher employee satisfaction, and improved profitability. Beyond the numbers, diversity ensures that businesses authentically represent and connect with the communities they serve.

"Diversity initiatives are not about quotas—they're about finding the best talent," said Dante Lee, CEO, Diversity City Media. "By broadening the talent pool, companies gain access to skilled individuals who bring unique perspectives and experiences."

A Legacy of Impact
Diversity hiring programs have paved the way for countless talented individuals to break barriers and achieve success. Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) have been at the forefront of this movement, producing leaders who have reshaped industries. One shining example is John W. Thompson, an HBCU graduate from Florida A&M University, who served as chairman of Microsoft and left an indelible mark on the tech industry.

"We know from experience that diversity isn’t just good for communities—it’s good for business," said Will Moss, CEO of HBCU CONNECT. "The talent coming out of HBCUs, including trailblazers like John W. Thompson, proves that inclusive hiring practices can uncover the best and brightest minds to lead us into the future."

A Call to Action for Business Leaders
With DEI programs under threat, organizations must take proactive steps to sustain their commitment to diversity:

• Advocate for Inclusion: Share the proven benefits of diverse teams and elevate success stories within your industry.
• Strengthen Talent Pipelines: Partner with HBCUs and minority-serving institutions to identify and nurture underrepresented talent.
• Audit Hiring Practices: Ensure recruitment strategies are free from bias and prioritize equity at every stage.
• Engage Communities: Build relationships with local communities and support programs promoting education and opportunity.
• Speak Out: Publicly reaffirm your organization’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.

In Summary
The rollback of DEI initiatives is a significant challenge, but it also presents an opportunity for business leaders to double down on their commitment to equity and representation. By championing diversity, companies can continue to drive innovation, foster community trust, and shape a more equitable future for all.

As a white male who grew up in the 50's & 60's I'm at a loss why any POC would have voted for him. This really should have been decided in the ballot box. Unfortunately too many couldn't see the handwriting on the wall, that he was going to once again attack our democracy and constitutional rights. MLK must be spinning in his grave for what seems to be the start of the overturning of the 1965 CRA. I didn't vote for him as he's a conman and his previous record while in office.
